
After having introduced the student to Swara mapping in the previous courses, this course focuses on Swara identification. The ability to identify the musical notes by listening to sounds is developed using specific exercises. This course also includes study of some Raga characteristics, the origin of Ragas from folk music, study of ‘Pentatonic’ structures present in music of different parts of the world. Raga Khamaj is sung with more Aalap, Bol Aalap and Taan. Raga Brindavani Sarang Chhota Khayal is learnt in detail with Aalap, BolAalap and Taan. The learner gets to study interesting compositions like Tirvat and Chaturang. Singing a Tirvat and composing a Tarana by the student gives an insight into different types of songs . The Layakari in Dhrupad is introduced starting with the singing of the composition in Dugun and then in Chougun.
